Museum of Mosaics, Devnya

Opened in 1986 in Devnya, northeastern Bulgaria, this museum was built directly over a lavish Late Roman villa (late 3rd to early 4th century AD) from ancient Marcianopolis, a city founded by Emperor Trajan in 106 AD. The villa, known as the House of Antiope, spanned an entire city block with 21 rooms across 1,402 square meters. Five rooms featured elaborate floor mosaics in 16 colors depicting mythological scenes including Zeus and Antiope, Ganymede, and the iconic gorgon Medusa, which served as spiritual protection against evil.
