Egtved is the site of a remarkably well-preserved Bronze Age burial dated by dendrochronology to 1370 BC. Discovered in 1921 by farmer Peter Platz in an oak log coffin within a barrow 30 metres wide, the burial contained a young woman aged 16-18 wearing a short tunic and corded string skirt with a spiral-decorated bronze belt plate. Her hair, brain tissue, teeth, and nails survived thanks to the tannin-rich oak coffin. Grave goods included bronze arm rings, a bark box with an awl and hair net, and a bark bucket containing fermented beer. Strontium isotope analysis revealed she originated outside Denmark, possibly from the Black Forest region of Germany.
