Abingdon - Causewayed Enclosure

Abingdon - Causewayed Enclosure is a Neolithic earthwork in England. The site is now largely destroyed by gravel extraction and housing development, though the southern extremity may survive [1]. Two human skeletons were found in 1905, and animal remains, flint implements and pottery sherds were discovered in April 1926 [2]. The site was excavated by ET Leeds in 1926-7, by Case in 1954, and by Avery in 1963 [3]. The pottery assemblage is dominated by Abingdon Ware, for which this enclosure is the type-site [4].
