Yunus Sütunu

Yunus Sütunu (Pillar of Jonah) is an ancient ruin near Sariseki in Hatay Province, Turkey, functioning as a watchtower and toll station guarding the highway connecting Cilicia to Antioch via the Belen Pass. Of probable antique construction, it saw Byzantine, Armenian, and Crusader occupation. Local tradition holds that the prophet Jonah was cast ashore here after being swallowed by a whale, giving the site its name. The structure historically formed part of the Cilician Gate, with two parallel walls flanking the Sariseki stream from the Amanos Mountains to the sea. Little remains today beyond scattered stone ruins.
