Sar Ruins

The Sar ruins are the remains of Comana Cappadocia (also called Comana Chryse, 'the golden'), an ancient sacred city in what is now Adana Province, Turkey. The city was renowned for its opulent temple of the goddess Ma-Enyo, a variant of the Anatolian mother goddess, served by thousands of temple attendants and governed by a high priest who ranked next to the Cappadocian king. Under Emperor Caracalla (r. 211-217 AD) it became a Roman colony. The extant archaeological remains at Sar include a theatre on the left bank of the Sarus River, a fine Roman doorway, numerous inscriptions, and traces of Severus's road with milestones.
