Meydan Castle

Meydankale is a Hellenistic fortified settlement in the Silifke district of Mersin Province, Turkey, in the ancient region of Cilicia Trachaea (Rugged Cilicia). Dating to the Seleucid period (3rd-1st centuries BC), it overlooks an ancient trade route between the Mediterranean coast and the cities of Diocaesarea and Olba. The ruins feature polygonal masonry typical of Seleucid construction, with bossage used in later Roman-era repairs, along with an observation tower, bastions, rooms, and cisterns. Its hilltop position commanded views over northern valleys and the surrounding plains.
