Imbriogon Tombs

An ancient settlement in Cilicia Trachea, modern Demircili in Mersin province, Turkey, located about 8 km north of Seleukia on the road to Diocaesarea. Founded probably in the 2nd century AD as a summer retreat for wealthy citizens of Seleukeia who also chose to be buried here. The site preserves seven monumental house and temple graves from the 2nd-3rd centuries AD, designed with columns and entablatures to resemble small temples. The lower storeys served as burial chambers housing sarcophagi, while upper storeys hosted funerary rites. The acropolis features remains of a Roman bathhouse with a mosaic depicting a sea god.
