Kızlar Kalesi

Kizlar Kalesi (Maidens' Castle) is a castle ruin on a conical mountain approximately 550 metres high, southeast of Cavuslu village in Mersin Province, Turkey. Dating to the Late Roman period (4th century AD), the two-storey structure functioned as an observation tower with no gate, its original entrance likely accessed via a wooden ladder. The castle shows clear Armenian masonry and probably passed to the Knights Hospitaller from 1214 when they were granted lands by the Armenian king. It has clear intervisibility with Oglan Castle to the north and guarded an old road from Adana to Pozanti.
