Roman Theatre, Cartagena

Built between 5 and 1 BC in the Roman colony of Carthago Nova, this theatre was dedicated to Gaius and Lucius Caesar, grandsons of Augustus. It seated approximately 6,000 spectators across three social tiers. A 3rd-century market was built over it, later destroyed by Vandals in 425 AD. Rediscovered in 1988, it was fully excavated by 2003 under archaeologists Ramallo Asensio and Ruiz Valderas. Architect Rafael Moneo designed the museum, and the site now draws over 200,000 visitors annually.
