Roman Bridge of Salamanca

A Roman bridge crossing the Tormes River in Salamanca, Castile and Leon, Spain, also known as Puente Mayor del Tormes. Built between 27 BC and 79 AD, the 270-metre-long bridge comprises 26 arches, of which only the first 15 closest to the city are of Roman origin. Part of the Via de la Plata trade route connecting Merida and Astorga, it was designated an Artistic Historic Monument in 1931 and an Asset of Cultural Interest in 1998. The bridge features the Verraco del Puente, a pre-Roman Vettones bull sculpture that appears on the city's coat of arms.
