Jublains Archaeological Site

Jublains is the site of Noviodunum, the Roman capital of the Diablintes, a Gallic people whose territory roughly corresponded to modern Mayenne in northwestern France. Settled from the 1st century CE, the town received a grid plan in the latter half of that century and features a monumental sanctuary, public baths, a theatre, and a fortress. The castellum, begun in the late 2nd or early 3rd century, is considered the best-preserved Roman fortification in France. Georadar surveys since 2018 continue to reveal new structures beneath the site. A modern archaeological museum stands beside the fortress.
