Hotié de Viviane

Hotie de Viviane is a Neolithic megalithic coffre (box tomb) in the Forest of Broceliande at Paimpont, Brittany, France. The chamber measures 2.9m long by 1.1-1.6m wide, built of 11 red schist slabs driven into bedrock, and radiocarbon-dated to approximately 3355-2890 BC. Excavations in 1982-1983 yielded polished stone axes from the Plussulien quarry, flint tools, arrow points, and Final Neolithic pottery. Arthurian legend identifies the site as the home of the fairy Viviane, where she imprisoned the enchanter Merlin, also known as the Tombeau des Druides.
