Samsø

Samsø is a Danish island in the Kattegat sea, approximately 15 km off the Jutland Peninsula [1]. Archaeological evidence shows the island has been continuously occupied since the end of the last Ice Age, when hunter-gatherers first settled the area [1]. Due to its central location in the Kattegat, the island served as an important meeting place during the Viking Age [1]. The island covers 114 km² and today has 3,724 inhabitants called Samsings [1]. The etymology of the name "Samsø" remains unknown [1].
