Wadi as-Sail Burial Mound Field

Wadi as-Sail Burial Mound Field is a necropolis in the Northern Governorate of Bahrain dating to the Dilmun period in the 3rd millennium BC. It forms part of the Dilmun Burial Mounds UNESCO World Heritage Site, inscribed in 2019, which encompasses 11,774 burial mounds across 21 archaeological sites built between 2250 and 1750 BCE. The mounds reflect the elaborate burial traditions of the Dilmun civilization, which thrived as a major trade hub connecting Mesopotamia with the Indus Valley, with excavations revealing traded goods including lapis lazuli from Afghanistan.
