Bahrain’s Dilmun Burial Mounds - Janabiyah Burial Field

A Dilmun-era burial mound field in the Northern Governorate of Bahrain, dating to the 3rd millennium BC. The site contains Late-type and Chieftain Mounds, with some mounds at various stages of excavation. Part of the broader Dilmun Burial Mounds inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2019. The mounds were built between 2200 and 1750 BCE, when Bahrain was a major trade hub whose prosperity enabled elaborate burial traditions for the entire population.
