Patara Ancient Lighthouse

The Patara Ancient Lighthouse is a 26-metre-tall Roman structure in the ancient city of Patara, Antalya Province, Turkey, commissioned by Emperor Nero in 64 AD. Its inscription reads: "I am Emperor Nero. I built this lighthouse for the safety of sailors". The tower features a 4-metre-high podium of 2,500 stones, a dolphin relief, and a dome. Destroyed by a 1481 earthquake and tsunami, it was restored over five years (2020-2025) and is considered one of the few known ancient lighthouses in the world.
