TürkiyeThe Obelisk of Theodosius is an ancient Egyptian obelisk of Pharaoh Thutmose III (r. 1479-1425 BC), originally erected at the Temple of Karnak and later transported to Constantinople. Made of pink granite, it originally stood 28 m tall but was damaged in transit and now measures approximately 19.5 m. Emperor Theodosius I re-erected it on the spina of the Hippodrome in 390 AD. The marble pedestal features bas-reliefs showing Theodosius offering the crown of victory at chariot races, and a Latin inscription declaring "Everything cedes to Theodosius and his eternal descendants".
