The Archaeological Site of Haidra

Haidra preserves the remains of Ammaedara, one of the oldest Roman cities in North Africa [1] [2]. Key monuments include a well-preserved Arch of Septimius Severus (195 AD), underground Roman baths, and the Church of Melleus [1] [3] [4]. The massive Byzantine fortress, built around 550 AD on Justinian's orders, is the largest of its kind in North Africa [3] [5] [6]. The site also preserves evidence of Vandal occupation in the early 6th century [7] [8].
