Kasserine

The site of ancient Cillium, a Roman settlement in the province of Africa Proconsularis, located in modern Kasserine, Tunisia. Elevated to municipium status under Vespasian and to colonia under the Severan dynasty (193-235 AD), the city controlled a strategic gap between the Semmama and Chambi mountain ranges. Visible ruins west of the modern city include a large theatre carved into the hillside, a triumphal arch, and the impressive Mausoleum of the Flavii, a three-storey tower mausoleum. Recent excavations uncovered the second-largest Roman olive oil mill ever found in the Empire.
