Dougga

Ancient Thugga, a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1997, is the best-preserved Roman small town in North Africa, spanning 75 hectares. Originally a Numidian capital from the 5th century BC, it was inhabited continuously for nearly 1,700 years by Numidians, Punics, Romans, and Byzantines. Key monuments include a 3,500-seat Roman theatre (168 AD), the Capitolium dedicated to Jupiter, Juno, and Minerva (166 AD), a Libyo-Punic mausoleum from the 2nd century BC -- Tunisia's finest pre-Roman monument -- and dolmen graves dating to the 2nd millennium BC.
