Sogmatar (Sumatar Harabesi) is an ancient sacred site in the Tektek Mountains, approximately 60 km southeast of Sanliurfa in southeastern Turkey. Seven circular temples arranged in a semicircle around a central mound correspond to celestial bodies: the sun god Shamash, the moon deity Sin, and five planets. Syriac inscriptions dating to the 2nd-3rd centuries AD reference the moon god Sin as 'Lord of the gods'. Over 120 rock-cut tombs have been discovered, with Bronze Age deposits dating to approximately 2400 BC. Recent excavations uncovered a 3,000-year-old Iron Age public building complex with seven rooms, and a 5,000-year-old toy chariot among 100+ Bronze Age artifacts.
