The Araltobe kurgan is a Sarmatian burial mound near Araltobe in the Atyrau region of northwestern Kazakhstan, dated to the 3rd-2nd century BC. Excavated in 1999 by archaeologist Zainulla Samashev, the mound yielded a "Golden Man" -- a Sarmatian chieftain buried with two swords and some 400 gold objects, alongside the remains of a woman, two horses, and a dog. The find parallels other Kazakh "Golden Men" such as the famed Issyk kurgan warrior.
