Gryet

Gryet is one of Denmark's largest megalithic sites, located on the island of Bornholm near Nexo, with 66 preserved standing stones in a small wooded area on elevated ground once surrounded by water or marshes. The stones stand on low mounds or over graves containing cremated remains. The oldest monoliths date to the Bronze Age, with bowl carvings found on three early Bronze Age stones, while the majority are from the Iron Age (ca. 400-750 AD). The site has never been formally excavated. Governor Emil Vedel saved it from destruction in 1870, and it was purchased for protection in 1875.
