Cerro De Trincheras

Cerro De Trincheras is a pre-Columbian terraced town site in Sonora, Mexico, dating to 1350-1450 AD [1]. Built on a hillside overlooking the Sonoran Desert, the settlement features extensive stone terraces on the west, north, and east flanks, constructed from local stone [1]. Archaeological evidence reveals pit houses and stone-walled rooms, with an estimated population around 1,000 inhabitants [1]. The term 'trincheras' (Spanish for trenches or entrenchments) was coined by early explorers due to the site's distinctive terraced walls that resembled military fortifications [1].
