Wajxaklajun is a Classic period Maya ruin in the highlands of Guatemala near San Mateo Ixtatán [1]. It is the most important archaeological site in the San Mateo Ixtatán area [1]. The Chuj Maya consider the city to have been built by their ancestors [1]. Unusual for a highland site, Wajxaklajun contains numerous stelae, a feature typically associated with lowland Maya cities, suggesting exchange with lowland centers [2].
