Templo de Bel

The Temple of Bel was an ancient temple in Palmyra, Syria, dedicated to the Mesopotamian god Bel, worshipped there in a triad with the lunar god Aglibol and the sun god Yarhibol [1]. Consecrated in AD 32, it formed the center of religious life in the city [1]. The temple was closed during the persecution of pagans in the late Roman Empire, between May 385 and March 388, during a campaign against eastern temples led by Praetorian Prefect Maternus Cynegius [1]. Its ruins were considered among the best preserved at Palmyra until further destruction by the Islamic State in August 2015 [1].
