Banias

Banias is an archaeological site in the Golan Heights near a natural spring associated with the Greek god Pan [1]. The spring is the source of the Banias River, one of the main tributaries of the Jordan River [1]. Archaeologists uncovered a shrine dedicated to Pan and related deities, alongside remains of an ancient city dating from the Hellenistic and Roman periods [1]. The site was inhabited for about 2,000 years until 1967, when its Syrian population fled during the Six-Day War [1].
