A major archaeological mound in Corum Province, Turkey, 25 km north of the Hittite capital Hattusa, with fourteen occupation layers spanning from the mid-Chalcolithic (6th millennium BC) through Ottoman times. The site is renowned for its Early Bronze Age royal tombs (c. 2500-2000 BC) of the Hattic culture, containing gold and silver jewelry, diadems, and over forty enigmatic bronze standards with stag and bull motifs. The 14th-century BC Sphinx Gate features guardian sphinxes and orthostats depicting royal worship ceremonies from the Hittite period. Major excavations began in 1935 under Remzi Oguz Arik and Hamit Zubeyr Kosay.
