Olympos Antique City

Olympos was a major harbor city on the southern coast of ancient Lycia, founded in the 3rd century BC and one of six cities holding three votes in the Lycian League. The pirate leader Zenicetes used it as a base until Roman forces under Publius Servilius Vatia besieged it in 78 BC. Emperor Hadrian visited in 130 AD and built a granary. Notable remains include a Hellenistic-Roman theater, Roman baths, Byzantine basilicas, and necropolises. Bishop Methodius, an early Christian theologian, was martyred here in 311 AD. The site is part of the Olympos Beydaglari National Park and on the UNESCO Tentative List.
