Soura

Soura (also Sura) is an ancient Lycian city near Demre in Antalya Province, Turkey, with origins dating to the 4th century BC. The site was a dependency of nearby Myra but held two voting rights in the Lycian League. Most notably, it housed the Oracle of Apollo, where priests interpreted the movements of sacred fish in a natural spring-fed pool to deliver prophecies. Archaeological remains include a partially preserved Temple of Apollo, Lycian rock tombs carved into limestone cliffs, monumental sarcophagi, and Byzantine-era structures. The name derives from ancient Lycian, roughly translating to 'sacred water place'.
