Theimussa Ancient City

An ancient Lycian settlement on the northern shore of Ucagiz Bay in Demre district, Antalya, Turkey. An inscription at the site dates the settlement to the 4th century BC. Theimussa was part of the Lycian League and functioned as a naval outpost affiliated with the cities of Myra and Kyaneai. Prominent ruins include tomb structures throughout the village, a doorway with intact jambs near the shore, tower remains on a rocky outcrop, and Hellenistic and Roman-period sarcophagi stacked above the sea to the east. The natural harbor, surrounded by green hills on three sides, served its maritime administrative role.
