Andriake Ancient City

The ancient port city of Myra in Lycia, located in modern Demre, Antalya Province, Turkey. Its most prominent structure is a massive Roman granary (horrea) built under Emperor Hadrian (117-138 AD), measuring 62 by 35 meters and capable of storing 6,000 cubic meters of grain. Along with Patara, Andriake was a key port for the Egyptian grain fleet supplying Rome and later Constantinople. Evidence of Murex shell heaps indicates purple dye production. The granary now houses the Museum of Lycian Civilizations.
