Pacatnamu is an archaeological site at the mouth of the Jequetepeque Valley on Peru's northern coast, protected by rocky cliffs on two sides and a manmade wall on the third. The site has two major occupation periods: Moche (c. 350-900 AD) and Lambayeque/Sican (c. 1100-1370 AD). It served as a focus of ceremonial activity and political power, featuring extensive wall systems and numerous huacas (truncated pyramids). First excavated in 1937-39 by Heinrich Ubbelohde-Doering, with further campaigns in 1952-53, 1962-63, and 1983-87.
