Huaca Esmeralda

Huaca La Esmeralda is a Chimu culture archaeological site in Trujillo, Peru, located halfway between the city center and Chan Chan. Built during the first stage of Chimu development around 900 AD, the rectangular pyramid features two platforms measuring approximately 65 by 41 meters, accessible through central ramps. Its walls display distinctive relief decorations depicting fishing nets with fish, seabirds, waves, and geometric diamond patterns reflecting the maritime culture of the Chimu people. Buried under sand for centuries, it was discovered by a local landowner in 1923.
