4500–3000 BC: La Roche-aux-Fées (The Fairies' Rock) is a Neolithic gallery grave in Essé, Brittany, France. Its name derives from a legend that fairies placed the stones. The monument comprises over 40 monoliths forming a corridor four times longer than wide, oriented northwest-southeast to align with winter solstice sunrise. One of the largest and most famous French dolmens, it exemplifies Neolithic megalithic architecture[1].
