An ancient city in southwestern Turkey's Burdur Province, situated at 1,450-1,700m altitude in the Western Taurus Mountains [1] [2]. Sagalassos was conquered by Alexander the Great in 333 BC and became the 'first city of Pisidia' under Rome, reaching peak prosperity in the 2nd-3rd centuries AD [1] [3] [4]. The well-preserved ruins include a 9,000-seat theatre, monumental fountains, colossal baths, and colonnaded streets, with up to 90% of original building elements recoverable during excavations [3] [5] [6]. On the UNESCO Tentative List, it has been excavated since 1990 [6] [7].
