Termessos Ruins

Termessos is an ancient Pisidian city built at over 1,000 meters elevation on Mount Solymos (modern Gulluk Dagi) in the Taurus Mountains, 34 km northwest of Antalya, Turkey. Founded by the Solymi tribe who worshipped the deity Solymeus, the city famously resisted Alexander the Great's siege in 333 BCE, who described it as an "eagle's nest". Key structures include a Hellenistic theatre seating 4,200, a colonnaded street, temples to Artemis and Zeus, and an extensive necropolis with over 1,000 rock-cut tombs. The city was abandoned by the 5th century CE after a devastating earthquake and now lies protected within Gulluk Dagi National Park.
