Ban Chiang is an archaeological site in Nong Han district, Udon Thani province, Thailand, and a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 1992[1]. Discovered in 1966, it is renowned for its ancient red-painted pottery[1]. Excavations uncovered skeletons, bronze artifacts, pottery, and rice fragments dating from approximately 2100 BC to 200 AD[1]. The site gained international attention in 2008 when US authorities investigated the trafficking of Ban Chiang antiquities[2].
