Saoba Stone Pillars

The Saoba Stone Pillars are two weathered standing stones at Wuhe Village, Ruisui Township, Hualien County, Taiwan, attributed to the Peinan (Beinan) Neolithic culture of 2,000-3,000 years ago. The taller pillar stands 6 meters (18 ft) and the shorter 4 meters (12 ft), both encircled by rings of smaller rocks. How these large stones were transported and erected on the Wuhe terrace overlooking the Xiuguluan River valley remains a mystery, though their positioning suggests ceremonial or religious use. The site is classified as a national historic monument by Taiwan's Ministry of the Interior.
