Yarrows Broch

Iron Age broch situated on a promontory projecting into the Loch of Yarrows in Caithness, Scotland [1] [2]. The circular structure has an internal diameter of about 10 metres with walls up to 4.2 metres thick, featuring intra-mural cells and a surviving staircase reaching 2 metres high [3]. Excavated by Joseph Anderson in the 1860s, five human skeletons were found, including one buried with a brass brooch dated to AD 1200-1300, indicating the site remained a focal point into the medieval period [1]. Surrounded by later Pictish-era buildings known as wags [1] [4] [5].
