Uushigiin River Deer Stones

Uushigiin Uver is one of Mongolia's most significant deer stone complexes, located 18 km west of Murun in Khuvsgul province. The site preserves 30 Bronze Age megaliths dating from approximately 1200 to 600 BCE, arranged in three rows possibly representing local leadership lineages. The stones depict flying deer in abstract style, weapons including bows and swords, and ornamental details such as headdresses and earrings. Stone 14, standing 256 cm tall, is particularly notable for its modelled human face with an open mouth suggesting shamanic chanting. The site was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site in 2023.
