Kharakhorum Museum

The Kharakhorum Museum in Kharkhorin, Mongolia, was built with Japanese government funding beginning in 2007 and opened in 2011. It houses 3,128 artifacts spanning from the Upper Palaeolithic to the 14th century, with 63 items designated as invaluable Mongolian heritage. Notable exhibits include a copy of the 1246 Guyuk Khan letter to Pope Innocent IV bearing the only surviving original Mongol Empire seal, over 300 coins from Karakorum excavations (2000-2005), and a Soyombo-script monument -- the sole stone artifact inscribed in this script. The permanent exhibition covers four periods from the Stone Age to the Mongol Empire.
