Shukhuti Mosaic

A 4th-5th century AD bath mosaic discovered in 1961 at the village of Shukhuti in the Guria region of western Georgia, dating to the era of Lazica. The mosaic was found in what is identified as a Roman villa's bathing suite, with the apodyterium floor measuring approximately 2 x 3.5 m. The mosaic-covered area was preserved under a 15 cm layer of lime mixed with ceramic fragments and cobblestones. The site represents important evidence of Roman and Early Byzantine material culture in the Caucasus during the Lazican period, when Greek cultural influences were widespread in the region.
