Georgia (country)Kudaro is a complex of Paleolithic cave sites in the highlands of Georgia, located at approximately 1,600 meters above sea level. The caves contain Lower Paleolithic Acheulean artifacts including bifaces, choppers, and sidescrapers. Radiothermoluminescent dating of the lowest Acheulean layer (5c) yielded dates of 360,000 years ago. Five cultural layers were identified in Kudaro I, excavated by V.P. Liubin over eleven fieldwork seasons. The caves also yielded Middle Pleistocene vertebrate remains, including the Kudaro cave bear.
