Dzalisi

Dzalisi is a major archaeological site in the Mukhrani Valley, Georgia, 50 km northwest of Tbilisi, identified as the Zalissa mentioned by Ptolemy as one of the principal towns of the ancient Kingdom of Iberia. Excavations conducted from 1971 to 1990 uncovered four palatial structures, hypocaustic baths, an acropolis, barracks, and a water supply system spanning an area of 70 hectares. The largest palatial complex is a Roman-style building with approximately 30 rooms. A notable 2nd-century AD mosaic depicting Ariadne and Dionysus at a feast is among the oldest mosaics found in the Caucasus.
