Mankby

Mankby is an exceptionally well-preserved medieval village site in the Espoonkartano district of Espoo, Finland, dating from the 13th to mid-16th century. At its peak in the Late Middle Ages, the village comprised eight farms housing around 50 inhabitants along the King's Road. In 1556, King Gustav I displaced the population to establish Espoo Manor, and Mankby was abandoned and forgotten. Rediscovered in 2004, extensive excavations from 2007-2013 made it the most studied medieval village site in Finland, yielding imported glass goblets, ornate Central European-style knives, ceramics, and multiple building layers.
