The Astuvansalmi rock paintings are located in Ristiina, Mikkeli, Southern Savonia, Finland at the shores of lake Yovesi, part of the large lake Saimaa [1]. The paintings sit 7.7 to 11.8 metres above present water level, though the lake was significantly higher when they were created [1]. The site features approximately 70 paintings [1]. The rock formation itself resembles a human head, a feature particularly noticeable during winter months [2].
