Orongo

Orongo is a stone village and ceremonial center at the southwestern tip of Rapa Nui, positioned on the high south-westerly rim of the volcanic caldera Rano Kau [1]. The site comprises low, sod-covered, windowless, round-walled structures with very low doorways [1]. A 300-meter barren cliff face drops to the ocean on one side, while a steep grassy slope leads down to a freshwater marsh inside the caldera on the other [1].
