Ahu Tongariki

The largest ahu on Rapa Nui, Ahu Tongariki was constructed between 1-500 AD [1]. Its fifteen moai were toppled during the island's civil wars and in the 20th century the ahu was swept inland by a tsunami [1]. Following restoration, it features the heaviest moai ever erected on the island at 86 tonnes [1]. Located one kilometer from Rano Raraku and Poike in the Hotu-iti area of Rapa Nui National Park, all statues face sunset during the winter solstice [1].
