Sitio Sierra

Sitio Sierra is an archaeological site in the Herrera Province of Parita Bay, Panama, situated 12 km from where the Santa Maria River meets the Pacific Ocean [1]. Archaeologists have determined it was a nucleated agricultural village that flourished during the Late Occupation Sequence, persisting until the Spanish conquest [1]. The settlement appears to have operated as an egalitarian society, consistent with other contemporary regional sites [1]. Excavations revealed domestic structures including cemeteries, middens, and residential buildings [1].
